INsiders Guide: Kyle Waves, Emma Harner, BAYLA, Polyglam…

Singapore-born, New York-based artist Kyle Waves has established himself as a notable new arrival within the Asian and queer communities of his generation. Kyle is influenced by the works of both Eastern and Western artists such as Lexie Liu, Troye Sivan, NewJeans, and Tinashe, and has delivered a variety of synth-heavy and vocal forward tracks in the pop, R&B, and house genres.

In his music, Kyle explores the multiple and often complicated sides of love, loss, and friendship that many can resonate with. Paired with over a decade of singing and dance training, he is able to deliver strong choreographed routines to align with his up-tempo tracks and a variety of music video concepts that have helped to further highlight the narrative that unfolds through his lyricism and production.

Kyle’s music has been featured on the OutLoud Radio Show, received multiple entries on the aBreak48 Radio Chart, and has been spun on 987FM in Singapore. Kyle’s music also served as the basis for “Going to the Top,” a play presented at The Tampa International Fringe Festival.

Rising singer-songwriter and guitarist Emma Harner announces her highly anticipated debut EP, Taking My Sideout July 11. The 5-track collection—featuring previously released singles “False Alarm” and “Do It” alongside three new songs—is a coming-of-age project shaped by emotional upheaval, self-examination, and quiet strength.

Known for her intricate guitar work and ethereal vocals, Harner crafts songs that bridge raw emotion with technical finesse. Her writing is sharp yet vulnerable, often exploring the moments where relationships unravel, identities shift, and self-discovery begins to take shape. Taking My Side captures Harner at a turning point—looking inward, asking hard questions, and stepping more fully into herself.

Originally from Lincoln, Nebraska and now based in Boston, Harner has developed a distinctive sound that fuses the intimacy of folk with the complexity of math rock. She first gained attention through a series of viral videos on Instagram and TikTok, quickly building a devoted following drawn to her virtuosic playing, harmonic sophistication, and emotionally resonant songwriting.

In 2024, her debut single “When You Mean It” premiered as a Zane Lowe World First. Since then, she has toured as direct support for Orla Gartland on both her 2024 U.S. and 2025 European runs, and has opened for artists including mxmtoonTiny Habits, and The Bygones.

With the success of her Debut Single, “Turn It Around”, BAYLA continues to beat the odds. As a child, doctors diagnosed her with a vocal cord dysfunction and told her she would never be able to sing.

In 2016, BAYLA independently released “Turn It Around”. The single quickly caught on like wild-fire at Canadian Radio, reaching “Top 40” status and peaking at #24 on the Canadian Billboard Charts. The single also went on to become a “Top 10” hit in Montreal, QC – BAYLA’s hometown. iHeartRadio chose BAYLA as their “Future Star” winner for both CHR & Hot A/C, making BAYLA one of the rare artists to be selected for both categories. Soon after, BAYLA followed up with “Monster”, an anti-bullying anthem, which was named Newcap’s “Trending Track” – the single went on to reach #38 on the “Top 40” Canadian Billboard Charts.

Since, BAYLA has been performing her energetic and anthemic pop sound across Canada. She has performed in many Festivals including Stars & Thunder, The Big Feastival, Festival Du Voyageur, Glowfair, and many more. As a member of the LGBTQ+ Community, her involvement in many Pride Festivals has also been a great highlight. BAYLA has opened and shared the stage with artists including Simple Plan, Bif Naked, Lights, Karl Wolf, Aaron Carter, Charlotte Cardin, Andy Kim and Tom Cochran.

BAYLA was announced as the 2019 Canada’s Walk of Fame “Emerging Artist of the Year”, winning the Grand Prize in their RBC “Emerging Musician Program”. More recently, SOCAN selected BAYLA for the TD Incubator for Creative Entrepreneurship Program.

Since the pandemic, BAYLA has found herself more involved with writing and producing music for other emerging artists. Her work behind the scenes can be found on Radio Hits including Yung Leo’s “Habit”, which hit the Top 25, and Billie du Page’s “Fake Friends”, which entered in the Top 10 at Canadian Radio, and hit #1 at Quebec Radio for sixteen consecutive weeks at the end of 2024

The project will be performed live in its entirety, a day prior to its release on June 29 at Permanent Records Roadhouse.

New York City electronic post-punk band Public Circuit announce their new record Modern Church: arriving on September 12 via à La Carte Records. Built up by Ethan Biamont, Sean Holloway and Nelson Fisher, the band are the pagan heretics driving their scene forward with an indomitable will to live. This news is heralded with a US and European tour announcement, as well as the first single and video of the album, the Pet Shop Boys meets The Faint stab at fragile masculinity, “Samson” — Stream / Watch the official video.

Named after the character of Abrahamic mythology known for superhuman strength and a betrayal that led to his downfall, “Samson” touches on the hubris wrapped up in masculine society. Propelling the elements of a synth-pop ballad forward with punk expression, the result is a danceable groove with striking instrumentation and vocals.

“This song was named after the religious tale of Samson the warrior, a character I always thought was so cool as a child,” shares the band’s Ethan Biamont. “What does it mean to embrace or defy the concepts of masculinity in a world so choked by patriarchal ideals for gender expression and sexuality? Samson loses his hair which is the key to his masculine strength, and I think that when you stray from the binary ideas of gender, it can feel like you need some obvious physical denotion to express that feeling. Cut me free.”

Brooklyn-based alt-soul musician and producer Yellow Shoots shares part two of the unflinching and unfiltered EP, Will You Bring The Rain? in a three-part series out now with “Soft One” and its New York City-set official music video, made by popular demand. Recorded straight to tape, the dreamy, cinematic project is a culmination of the artist’s last seven years–a place to pour his dreams, fears, and questions as he interrogates his own identity and self-worth. Yellow Shoots is set to perform live on August 2 at The Waiting Room in Atlanta and on September 5 at Gramps in Miami.

On the genre-blending, multi-faceted EP, which puts the artist’s whole self on full display, Yellow Shoots shares, “I think we’re in a world where we’re constantly judging a book by its cover. I wanted this music to have multiple identities, multiple layers. Unapologetic main character energy with a little bit of mystery. Self acceptance and self worth to the front.” Over groovy synths, smooth vocals and sticky melodies, Part 2 allows Yellow Shoots to plunge further into his darker, moodier sides with music that feels heavier and intimate.

Viral hit “Soft One” was created on Instagram Live in 2021 in front of fans, and completed in just a few hours, with a melody that emerged quickly. The retro-funk-tinged groove is an ode to self-confidence and finding strength in flaws. Yellow Shoots says the song, “is really about believing oneself and tapping into one’s shortcomings as actual superpowers.”

Genre-blurring artist Ula steps into the spotlight with her debut solo single So Kind, marking the first glimpse of a bold new musical chapter. Formerly known as the frontwoman and creative force behind the prog-pop project Tenacity, Ula now strikes out on her own, unveiling a sound that’s both fiercely individual and strikingly fresh.

So Kind is available now on your streaming service of choice via APOLLO Distribution.

On his debut full-length album Beneath the Sand (Electric CholoLand Records), Portland, Oregon-based Chicano rocker Joshua Josué delivers a soul-bearing, genre-crossing journey of loss, love, and rebirth, set against the borderlands of Mexico, the highlands of Central America, and the deserts of the American West. With songs in both English and Spanish, the record is steeped in the dust and poetry of the open road, echoing the legacy of American troubadours and Latin folk heroes alike.

“The name of the album is Beneath the Sand,” says Joshua. “It is the title track which was written by me, Ben [Rice] and Roly Salley of The Chris Isaak Band.” Salley – who won a GRAMMY for writing Robert Plant and Alison Krauss’ “Killing the Blues” – is one of several legendary collaborators on the album. Also featured are members of Los Lobos, Dwight Yoakam’s band, The Old 97’s, and Los Super Seven, bringing decades of roots-rock, Americana, Tejano, and Chicano soul to Joshua’s deeply personal songs.

The album began to take shape years ago, far from any studio. “I spent a few years traveling on my motorcycle through Mexico and Central America, playing small bars and cantinas and I began writing the songs for this album at that time,” Joshua recalls. “All the songs are deeply personal to me and are quite autobiographical, embracing the towns, lonely highways, and the roadside motels that I called home for those years.” Written largely in solitude, the songs became a way to process a devastating loss and an unexpected new chapter. “This album has the rhythms and tempos inspired by the artists I met in Latin America,” he says, “yet if you look a little deeper, beneath the sand, you will find something nuanced and introspective where layers of personal stories and cultural crossroads meet.”

South England’s emerging five-piece, Moon Machine, are stepping into the spotlight with the release of their debut single, Happy To Be Here – a dreamy, psychedelic-tinged indie track that marks the first chapter of their highly anticipated debut album, Who Feels It Knows It, due out Autumn/Winter 2025.

Happy To Be Here is available now on your streaming service of choice via APOLLO Distribution.

London based artist, with Dutch-Taiwanese roots, Luvrite releases the alternative music video for hisdebut single “Naked Minds” a laid-back, dreamy, R&B track. Video set for release on the 2nd of July.

Intricately produced instrumentation and layers of rich harmonies lay the perfect foundation for Luvrite’s honest and introspective lyricism. “I’m in love with your naked mind girl” Luvrite sings, demonstrating his impressive vocal range and exploring the universal need for vulnerability. Capturing a modern romance, the video features Luvrite performing to camera alongside a love interest, set against a backdrop of multiple stylish, visually striking locations.

Delving into the story behind the track Luvrite tells us: “I wrote ‘Naked Minds’ nearly four years ago, not long after moving to London. At the time I was searching for deeper

connection in my relationships; it’s a song about daring to let your guard down. Three years later, after regaining my voice, I’ve grown into the person I was trying to be in that song: emotionally open and surrounded by incredible people. It was produced and recorded between my bedroom and my friend Luke Ashby’s, with final touches by New Machine (Jorja Smith, Maverick Sabre). Being the oldest, yet still most relevant song, it felt right to open the “Slowly Rushing” EP with this one.”

Talking on latest video Luvrite continues: “For Naked Minds we had so many visual ideas that I had to make another one. This was the original shot in 2021, right around the time I lost my voice. It shows a constant battle of distancing oneself from your soulmate out of old defence mechanisms that no longer serve towards any good. At the end I finally see her Naked Mind, but is it what I thought it was?”
