New images have surfaced from Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming adaptation of Frankenstein.

The acclaimed filmmaker is currently developing a fresh take on Mary Shelley’s classic novel for Netflix. Set to debut this November, the film stars Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as the creature. The official synopsis describes the story as follows: “Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro reimagines Mary Shelley’s timeless tale of Victor Frankenstein, a visionary yet hubristic scientist who animates a creature through a groundbreaking experiment, ultimately leading to tragic consequences for both creator and creation.”

The ensemble cast also features Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lars Mikkelsen, Christian Convery, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz. Del Toro penned the screenplay and is serving as a producer alongside Miles Dale and Scott Stuber.
Del Toro shared his personal connection to the story, stating, “The most significant figure from English literary history, surprisingly, is a teenager named Mary Shelley. She’s remained as vital in my life as if she were family. Whenever I feel like giving up—when doubts creep in about the feasibility of my dreams—I think of her.”

This collaboration between Netflix and del Toro isn’t new. The director previously worked on the Tales of Arcadia series and created the 2022 anthology series Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. That same year, his stop-motion adaptation of Pinocchio was also released on the platform.
The film is set to have its world premiere at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival next month, followed by screenings at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in September. Its official release on Netflix is scheduled for November 2025.
