Netflix has secured the rights to produce a remake of the iconic ’80s police series T.J. Hooker, a show originally starring William Shatner, known for his role in Star Trek. The classic series centered on a seasoned police sergeant who, after the tragic death of his partner during a bank robbery, chooses to step down from detective work and rejoin the force as a patrol officer.

Created by Rick Husky, the original T.J. Hooker aired for five seasons from 1982 to 1986. The cast featured notable actors such as Adrian Zmed, April Clough, Heather Locklear, Richard Head, James Darren, and Hugh Farrington. Although ABC initially canceled the show in 1985, CBS picked it up for an additional season, adding 17 episodes and a TV movie to the series’ run.

The upcoming film adaptation of T.J. Hooker is being scripted by Jarrad Paul and Andy Mogel. Production is set to be led by Sophie Cassidy and Matt Crespy from 2.0 Entertainment, Adrian Askarieh from Prime Universe Films, and Alex Westmore from Vali Vista Films. Rick Husky, the original series creator, has joined as an executive producer. It remains unconfirmed whether William Shatner will participate in the reboot. The project is currently shrouded in secrecy, with details about its storyline and characters under wraps, but early descriptions suggest it will blend action and comedy.

The original series’ premise revolved around Sgt. T.J. Hooker of the Los Angeles Police Department, a tough and principled veteran who, after experiencing personal loss and divorce, returns to uniform duty to mentor new recruits and combat crime—particularly targeting the same criminals responsible for his partner’s death.
