Brie Larson has signed on to play a leading role in the upcoming comedy film Close Personal Friends, produced by Amazon MGM Studios. The talented actress is no stranger to comedy, having previously starred in films such as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, 21 Jump Street, and Trainwreck.
This project marks Larson’s return to the big screen after her role as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel in the 2023 film The Marvels. Recently, she appeared as a guest star in the acclaimed Hulu dramedy The Bear Season 4. Currently, Larson is set to star alongside fellow Oscar winner Olivia Colman in FX’s mystery drama series Cry Wolf.
According to THR, Larson will share the screen with Lily Collins (Emily in Paris), Jack Quaid (The Boys), and Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians), who have all been cast in leading roles for Close Personal Friends. Details about their characters are being kept under wraps. The film is described as a comedy centered around a couple who meet and become friends with a celebrity couple during a trip to Santa Barbara. As personal boundaries blur, the story promises to deliver plenty of awkward and hilarious moments.
Close Personal Friends will be directed and executive produced by Jason Orley, known for Big Time Adolescence. The screenplay is written by Isaac Aptaker, based on a story by Orley and Aptaker. The film is produced by Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger’s Walk-Up Company, along with Ashley Fox and Johnny Pariseau from Maximum Effort. Filming is scheduled to begin this September in London.
