Fan Favourites Returning For Wayans Brothers ‘Scary Movie’ Reboot

Actresses Regina Hall and Anna Faris, renowned for their roles in the original Scary Movie franchise, are set to reprise their characters Brenda and Cindy, respectively, in the upcoming reboot by the Wayans Brothers.

Expressing their excitement, Hall and Faris stated, “We’re thrilled to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and reunite with our wonderful friends Keenen, Shawn, and Marlon — three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again).” This new installment marks a significant reunion, as it brings the Wayans brothers together for the first time in 18 years to craft an entirely new, original script for the series. They are co-writing the Miramax production alongside Rick Alvarez. Filming is scheduled to begin in October, aiming for a worldwide theatrical release on June 12, 2026, through Paramount. Miramax holds a first-look deal with Paramount, further supporting the project.

Timing is crucial in comedy, and the release of a new Scary Movie feels perfectly timed amid this year’s oversaturation of horror films. The franchise, which grossed nearly $900 million globally, was originally created by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Keenen Ivory Wayans. Keenen directed and wrote the first two films and will return as a producer for this upcoming entry. Marlon and Shawn also wrote and starred in the initial installments. The sixth film in the series will be directed by Michael Tiddes, a longtime collaborator of the Wayans, who began as an assistant on White Chicks. Tiddes has directed several Wayans projects, including the satirical horror comedy A Haunted House and Netflix hits Naked and Sextuplets. He is represented by Artists First and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher.

Executive producers include Miramax’s Jonathan Glickman, Alexandra Loewy, and Thomas Zadra.

The Scary Movie franchise debuted in 2000, quickly becoming one of the highest-grossing R-rated horror-comedy series, with the first film setting a box office record for an R-rated horror movie at $42.5 million on opening weekend. The series has released five films so far.

Regina Hall, represented by the Independent Artist Group, is also starring in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Warner Bros. film One Battle After Another, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Benicio Del Toro, scheduled for release on September 26. She’s also part of Nick Stoller’s Judgment Day with Will Ferrell and Zac Efron, currently in production for Peacock’s The Five Star Weekend, sharing the screen with Jennifer Garner, Chloë Sevigny, Gemma Chan, and Timothy Olyphant. Additionally, Hall will voice a character in The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, alongside Sherry Cola, Arturo Castro, George Lopez, and Ice Spice.

Anna Faris, represented by Gersh, Range Media Partners, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern, gained fame through her role in the Scary Movie series and has since starred in and produced films such as The House Bunny and Greg Araki’s Smiley Face. She’s set to star in Spa Weekend. Her other notable credits include The Dictator, Overboard, Just Friends, and Oscar-winning titles Brokeback Mountain and Lost in Translation. Faris also starred for eight seasons on CBS’s Mom with Allison Janney and made memorable appearances on Friends and Entourage. She is also the author of the bestselling memoir Unqualified.
