Sam Varga Unveils Brooding New Single “Queen of the Ashes”

Sam Varga, a Nashville-based singer and songwriter, dropped his latest single, “Queen of the Ashes” on August 22. It’s a guitar-driven anthem with lyrics capturing the intoxicating chaos of self-destruction. With its sharp storytelling and moody edge, the track tells the tale of a woman who sets fire to her own world as an act of revenge, channeling fury into something hauntingly cathartic.

The song came together in a single night at Varga’s apartment alongside the musicians Caroline Romano and Spencer Jordan. The track was soon taken into the studio with producer Dan Swank (All Time Low, Knox, Taylor Acorn), who helped bring the vision roaring to life.

“I had the title for a while and knew exactly who I wanted to write it with,” Varga said. “Caroline [Romano] is an outstanding artist, and Spencer [Jordan] has been my best friend since I got to town — he’s the special sauce on so much great music coming out of Nashville and LA.”

Varga’s new single continues his musical momentum following his 2024 debut album “Shadow Work” with breakout tracks like “Minute Man” and “Long Way Back.” With “Queen of the Ashes,” Varga sharpens his alt-country edge while holding onto the emotional vulnerability and restless urgency that define his sound.

A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Varga cut his teeth in the DIY emo scene, playing basement shows and writing songs steeped in punk energy and late-night honesty. That raw foundation collides with his Nashville songwriting, creating something unique — emo grit meets Southern soul. His music is addictive, sharp, and self-aware, striking the perfect balance between gritty storytelling and melodic hooks.

Whether he’s digging into existential dread or offering flashes of hard-won hope, Varga’s songs are tailor-made for long drives, post-party spirals, and those fleeting moments when everything finally clicks into place.
