Osgood Perkins, the director behind 2024’s Longlegs and 2025’s The Monkey, is teaming up with Neon for another chilling horror project titled The Young People. Perkins, whose previous works include 2015’s The Blackcoat’s Daughter and 2016’s I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, also has his upcoming film Keeper set to release later this year. Production for The Young People is slated to begin this fall in Vancouver.
According to Variety, The Young People will feature Nico Parker and Lola Tung in lead roles. Parker gained recognition for her role as Sarah Miller in the premiere episode of HBO’s The Last of Us. She also starred as Astrid Hofferson in the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon (2025), with additional credits in Dumbo (2019), Reminiscence (2021), Suncoast (2024), and Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy (2025). Parker is also set to appear in Maude Apatow’s directorial debut, Poetic License, premiering at TIFF next month.
Lola Tung, best known for portraying Isabel “Belly” Conklin in Amazon Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty, has also joined the cast. She is set to star in another Shudder horror film, Forbidden Fruits, alongside Lili Reinhart, Victoria Pedretti, and Alexandra Shipp.
Perkins wrote the screenplay for The Young People and will produce the film alongside Chris Ferguson and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones. While plot details are currently undisclosed, anticipation is high given Perkins’ track record in the horror genre.
Neon has not yet announced a release date for The Young People.
