Newly established production company Pinstripes is currently working on a contemporary remake of Scarface, inspired by the 1930 novel by Armitage Trail. The story was famously adapted by director Brian De Palma in 1983, featuring award-winning actor Al Pacino in one of his most iconic roles.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Danny Ramirez—star of Captain America: Brave New World—confirmed that he will lead the new Scarface project. He is developing the film alongside his creative partner, Tom Culliver, under their production banner, Pinstripes. This announcement comes ahead of the upcoming world premiere of their debut feature, Dead Man’s Wire, a true-crime drama directed by Gus Van Sant.

“One of the major projects we’re working on right now is Scarface. Naturally, Danny will portray Scarface,” Culliver explained. “We aim to modernize the story, adapting the original novel. We’re developing it independently and have secured some development financing. While we recognize the legacy of the 1980s Pacino version and the original 1932 film, we believe it’s a story that’s ready for a fresh, modern take. Having someone like Danny in the lead makes it even more exciting.”

Ramirez expressed that starring in a Scarface film is a dream come true, especially as he hopes to bring his own interpretation to the role.

He shared, “Playing Scarface has always been a dream for me, and I’m excited to develop it in a way that resonates today. I believe it’s more relevant now than ever, and I’m eager to take this on.”

The novel that inspired the story was based on the real-life gangster Al Capone. The 1983 film chronicled the rise and fall of Tony Montana, a Cuban immigrant who becomes Miami’s top drug lord. Prior to Pacino’s portrayal, the character originated in the 1932 film Scarface, directed by Howard Hawks, with Paul Muni playing the role of Tony Camonte.
