Vertical has unveiled the official trailer for the indie film Griffin in Summer, a coming-of-age comedy centered on a precocious 14-year-old boy. The film evokes the spirit of Wes Anderson’s classic Rushmore, but explores a different kind of awakening. It is scheduled for release later this month.

The film stars newcomer Everett Blunck as Griffin, a highly ambitious playwright at just fourteen years old. When Griffin’s mother, portrayed by Melanie Lynskey, hires a charming 25-year-old handyman, both Griffin’s life and his latest play take an unexpected and inspiring turn. The supporting cast features Owen Teague, Kathryn Newton, and Abby Ryder Fortson.

Early reviews praise the film as “a showcase for Colia’s exceptional casting skills and talent for heartfelt storytelling,” calling Griffin in Summer a “very impressive directorial debut.”

Everett Blunck, who also appears in The Plague—one of Cannes’ standout films this year—will be familiar to many. While audiences may recognize him from that breakout role, this film marks his first lead performance. Be sure to check it out.
