Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi has officially announced his next horror project: a remake of the 1978 cult classic film Magic, which was originally led by Oscar-winning actor Anthony Hopkins. Raimi is teaming up with Lionsgate to develop and produce the reimagining through his Raimi Productions banner. Alongside Raimi, producers include Chris Hammond, Tim Sullivan, Roy Lee, and Zainab Azizi of Raimi Productions. The screenplay will be penned by Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, marking their latest collaboration with Raimi; they previously co-wrote the script for Raimi’s upcoming horror film Send Help, set for release on January 30, 2026.
The remake will also be executive-produced by Andrew Childs for Vertigo and Paul Fishkin, with Meredith Wieck and Pavan Kalidindi overseeing the project on behalf of Lionsgate. Currently, the film has no confirmed director, cast, or release date.
The original Magic featured Anthony Hopkins as Corky, a magician who gains fame along with his ventriloquist dummy, Fats, a wisecracking and unpredictable puppet Corky cannot control. The film was directed by Richard Attenborough from a screenplay by William Goldman, adapted from Goldman’s novel of the same name.
