Sydney Sweeney’s upcoming biographical sports drama, Christy, has officially announced its release date via Black Bear Pictures. Along with the news, new images showcasing Sweeney’s transformation into the former boxing champion Christy Martin have been unveiled. The film will premiere globally this Friday at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, with a theatrical release scheduled for November 7, 2025.
According to Vanity Fair, two of the released photos highlight Sweeney in the boxing ring, hinting at the intense fight scenes featured in the film. The images also offer a first look at Ben Foster portraying Christy Martin’s husband, James V. Martin, and Chad L. Coleman as the renowned boxing promoter Don King. The cast additionally includes Merritt Wever, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, Katy O’Brian, and Tony Cavlero. Christy is directed by David Michôd, who co-wrote the screenplay with Mirrah Foulkes. The film tells the story of Martin’s rise in the boxing world and her fight for survival after surviving an attempted murder by her husband in 2010. In a previous interview, Sweeney shared her experience of undergoing a rigorous physical transformation, which involved intensive weight training and kickboxing.
Beyond Christy, Sweeney’s upcoming projects include Lionsgate’s adaptation of The Housemaid alongside Oscar-nominee Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, as well as Ron Howard’s survival thriller Eden, starring Ana de Armas. She is also set to reprise her role as Cassie in the highly anticipated third season of Euphoria, which has experienced delays.
