INsider’s Guide: Kadhja Bonet, Anaïs & The Hoops, Adult Leisure, Avery Lynch, The Maple State…

Kadhja Bonet has returned with “Don’t Count On Us,” the lead single and video from her forthcoming EP “Battlewear,” set to release September 18 via Bandcamp. Premiered by FLOOD Magazine, the track pairs Bonet’s radiant vocals with a pulsing, guitar-driven beat, delivering a sharp rebuke to corporate greed and environmental complacency.

“When we use their products and turn a blind eye we send the message that we don’t mind however they operate, whoever they hurt.” Bonet said.

Bonet urges the public to make mindful daily choices and acknowledge how we all contribute to this complacency.

“Decolonizing our money is a very intricate process and I’m nowhere near complete,” Bonet said.

“Battlewear” marks Bonet’s first self-release in nearly a decade, with digital and limited vinyl editions available exclusively via Bandcamp. A full-length album is planned for early 2026.

Celebrated for her earlier records “The Visitor” (2016) and “Childqueen” (2018), Bonet has collaborated with Anderson .Paak, Childish Gambino, Khruangbin, Bonobo, and was sampled on Kendrick Lamar’s “Die Hard.” After a brief hiatus to earn a master’s in music technology, she’s back with her most politically charged and sonically adventurous work yet.

Rising Brooklyn-based artist Anaïs & The Hoops steps forward today with “Growing Pains,” a six-track EP now streaming everywhere. Blending indie-pop sparkle with jazz and folk touches, the collection is playful, nostalgic, and deeply personal — three years in the making.

Shaped by collaboration, the record features contributions from producer Ben Coleman, Anaïs’ live band, her mother (who helped with the French-language track “Passe le temps”), and even a poem from a close friend woven into “Cool.”

“Basically, every song was touched by someone in or around the live band,” she said.

At its heart, “Growing Pains” is about identity and self-discovery, capturing the tension of holding onto youth while moving forward. Written after her move from California to New York, they mark a chapter of growth that now defines her artistry.

“These songs were some of the first I wrote that truly felt like me,” Anaïs said.

Raised in San Diego and seasoned in jazz clubs before finding her footing as a songwriter, Anaïs Lund has carved out a space with her retro-tinged indie project, Anaïs & The Hoops. Known for her magnetic live shows, she has already sold out headline gigs, played NXNE in Toronto, and supported Jade Bird and Thunder Jackson.

To celebrate the release, Anaïs & The Hoops will perform at NYC’s Nightclub 101 on September 5th.

Adult Leisure dropped their final pre-album single today with “Boy Grows Old,” the last taste before debut LP “The Things You Don’t Know Yet” arrives October 3 on limited vinyl. The track also marks the band’s second collaboration with The 1975 / Sam Fender saxophonist John Waugh.

Guitarist David Woolford calls the song a raw reflection on youth without the rose-tinted glow:

“This song is a snapshot of childhood, with the luxury of hindsight,” Woolford said. “It’s a heartfelt message to our younger selves, recognising we can’t change the past but, we can reflect on it and learn from our experiences.”

Formed in Bristol in 2020, Adult Leisure quickly found their footing with a string of singles that led to their debut EP “The Weekend Ritual” in 2022, which earned early BBC Radio 1 and press support. A second EP followed in 2023, drawing attention from Wonderland and further national radio play. Alongside sold-out hometown shows and multiple UK tours, the band’s dynamic live reputation has carried them to festivals and stages across Europe, cementing their place as one of the most exciting new names in indie.

With more than 250,000 streams already on the record’s singles, plus support from BBC Radio, The Line of Best Fit, and “Made In Chelsea,” their debut full-length arrives with weight behind it. Following the release of “The Things You Don’t Know Yet,” Adult Leisure will hit the road for a 12-date UK headline tour kicking off October 9 at London’s Sebright Arms and wrapping November 8 in Liverpool.

Rising singer-songwriter Avery Lynch has released her new EP “Glad We Met via RECORDS/Sony Music. The 9-track collection features recent singles “Rain,” “the boys who don’t know what they want,” “think about it,” “Dead to Me,” “Lasting Effects,” and “Sweetheart,” alongside brand-new material.

Built on lush piano arrangements and Lynch’s soft, expressive vocals, “Glad We Met is a project of heartbreak, healing, and renewal. It also marks a creative milestone — her first co-produced record — giving the music a deeper sense of intimacy and ownership.

“Each song follows the beginning of the love story I’ve been living for over five years now,” Lynch said. “Some songs are about heartbreak and moving on, and others are about falling in love again. It all comes together with the title track ‘I’m Glad We Met,’ which tells the story of meeting my significant other, where we’ve gone, and where we are now.”

Originally from Pennsylvania and now based in Los Angeles, Lynch began writing at the piano at age seven and has built a reputation as a natural storyteller. Often described as a “happy girl filled with sad songs,” her music has resonated widely.

To kickoff the release, Lynch will tour the West Coast this fall, kicking off November 14 in Portland with stops in Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

Manchester’s The Maple State are back. The reunited group will release their new album “Don’t Take Forever” on November 7, 2025 — their first full-length album since 2018’s “The Things I Heard At The Party,” and their first together in two decades.

The band are previewing the record with lead single “Settle Down,” which came out yesterday on all platforms. Produced by Drew Farrer, the track bristles with ‘90s-inspired grit before bursting into a fuzzed-out, Pinkerton-era Weezer crescendo. Its official video is streaming now.

Frontman Greg Counsell describes the single as a reflection on relationships and missed milestones.

“I realised I was 35 and all my friends were married with children and houses and I was no closer to having an adult, grown up relationship than I was at 18,” he said. “I had spent my life in a series of doomed relationships, and the chorus of this song could almost be applied to the first stages of any of them. It’s a song that sits somewhere between hope, despair and self-mockery.”

The track also sparked the band’s reunion. After more than a decade apart, Counsell and drummer John Goodwin reconnected in 2020 while working with producer Farrer. By 2021, all four members were back in the studio together, recording new material for the first time in 15 years.

The Maple State will mark the release with a special hometown show at Aatma in Manchester on October 24.

Cardiff alt-rock six-piece Breichiau Hir have shared a live session video for “Syllu Mewn I’r Gwagle” (Staring Into The Void), the opening track from their acclaimed second album “Y Dwylo Uwchben” (The Hands Above).

The performance — recorded at One Louder Studios in Newport with producer Phil Smith — is the first of five tracks from a full live session set to be revealed October 31. The band’s trademark mix of cathartic noise, fragile melody, and Welsh-language lyricism is on full display, pairing ferocity with vulnerability.

The release follows news that “Y Dwylo Uwchben” has been shortlisted for the Welsh Music Prize 2025, a major nod for the DIY outfit.

“We’re very proud that Y Dwylo Uwchben has been shortlisted for the Welsh Music Prize,” Frontman Steffan Dafydd said. “A lot of hard work went into making this album, and we’re already proud of what we’ve created. We self-released this album completely DIY with help from just a handful of close collaborators, so it means a huge amount to us to have that effort acknowledged alongside such brilliant Welsh talent and heroes.”

Alongside the new session, Breichiau Hir will hit the road this autumn supporting Goldie Lookin Chain and appearing at Sŵn Festival in Cardiff.
