Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are among the stars of The Housemaid, the upcoming thriller directed by Paul Feig.
People Magazine unveiled the first images from The Housemaid, offering intriguing glimpses of Sweeney and Seyfried. One notable shot shows Sweeney’s character cleaning a mirror, with Seyfried’s character gazing at her with a menacing expression in the background. The film is an adaptation of Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel from 2022. In the story, Sweeney plays Millie, a woman seeking a fresh start as she tries to leave her past behind. She is hired as a live-in housemaid for the wealthy Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar).
The official synopsis teases, “But what begins as a dream job quickly unravels into something far more dangerous — a sexy, seductive game of secrets, scandal, and power. Behind the Winchesters’ closed doors lies a world of shocking twists that will keep you guessing until the very end.”
The cast also includes Michele Morrone and Elizabeth Perkins.
Directed by Feig with a screenplay by Rebecca Sonnenshine, the film has been described by Feig as “shocking, delicious, and fun.” He added, “The Housemaid is pure entertainment — a sexy and surprising rollercoaster ride that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. It’s the kind of insane fun you’ll want to watch again and again this holiday season. So bring your friends and wear your pearls — you’ll be clutching them!”
Feig serves as producer alongside Laura Fischer and Todd Lieberman.
Originally scheduled for a Christmas Day release, Lionsgate has moved The Housemaid up by one week to December 19, 2025. The film will serve as counterprogramming to Avatar: Fire and Ash, which opens on the same day.
