Play Dirty, directed and co-written by Shane Black, is an upcoming action thriller that adapts Donald E. Westlake’s classic Parker book series (published under his pen name Richard Stark), slated for release on October 1, 2025 on Prime Video.
The film dives headfirst into the world of high-stakes heists, following a band of thieves as they unite to take on a billionaire and his private army in pursuit of a sunken treasure valued at a staggering billion dollars. With twists and turns at every corner, this film will keep an entire audience at the edge of their seats.
Before the screening, there was a red carpet where the cast made an appearance for photos and interviews, and a line of audience members gradually formed down the block where the screening took place. With nearly every seat occupied, the theatre was full of anticipatory energy as Black and the Play Dirty cast got on stage to introduce the hard work they put into this film.

As the film begins, we quickly see Mark Wahlberg’s character, Parker, at the center of the heist operation. Wahlberg steps into this role with confidence, delivering a commanding performance as the group’s leader. While his confidence and tactical mind anchor the crew, there’s always a lingering question: is there more to his plan than he lets on?
LaKeith Stanfield, known for his breakout role in Get Out (2017), shines as Alan Grofield. As Parker’s go-to man, Alan is the perfect foil to his calculating strategist. Stanfield’s loyal, yet undeniably humorous performance provides balance and adds emotional weight to the team dynamic.
Rosa Salazar gives what could very well be another breakout performance as the film’s powerful female lead, stealing every scene she’s in with charisma and intensity. Meanwhile, Nat Wolff injects much-needed humor amidst the chaos, showing audiences a more versatile side of his acting that feels refreshingly different from his past roles.
The ensemble cast is rounded out with memorable turns from Keegan-Michael Key, Chukwudi Iwuji, Tony Shalhoub, and Thomas Jane, giving Play Dirty a deep bench of talent that enriches both the action and comedic beats. Thanks to Shane Black, the producers (Susan Downey, Chuck Mondry, Anthony Bagarozzi), and production companies (Team Downey, Amazon MGM Studious, Screen New South Wales), a movie that blends of sharp humor, explosive action, and a cast firing on all cylinders is making its way to the streaming platform. It’s possible that Play Dirty is poised to be one of the most entertaining action thrillers of the year.
