Peaky Blinders Sequel Show In Development, What We Know So Far

Netflix and the BBC have greenlit a Peaky Blinders sequel series, with creator and writer Steven Knight returning to expand the Shelby family saga. The new show is set for two seasons, each running six hour-long episodes, and will pick up after the events of A Peaky Blinders Film, which is currently in post-production.

The series is set in 1953 Birmingham, where the city is undergoing massive reconstruction following the devastation of World War II. According to the official synopsis, “the race to control Birmingham’s rebuilding becomes a brutal contest of mythical proportions. This is a city of both opportunity and danger, with the Shelby family once again at its bloody center.”

Cillian Murphy, who famously played Tommy Shelby across the show’s six seasons, will serve as executive producer on the sequel. He joins Knight, Karen Wilson, Martin Haines, Jamie Glazebrook, Jo McClellan, Mona Qureshi, and Toby Bentley. Production will take place at Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham, with Kudos and Garrison Drama handling the series.

“I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story,” Knight said. “It will once again be rooted in Birmingham, telling the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel—and it will be a hell of a ride.”

Originally airing from 2013 to 2022, Peaky Blinders followed Murphy’s Tommy Shelby as the ruthless leader of the infamous Birmingham street gang. The show spanned six seasons and built a global following.

Before the sequel arrives, Murphy will reprise his role in A Peaky Blinders Film for Netflix. Written by Knight and directed by Tom Harper, the movie co-stars Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Stephen Graham, Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee, Ian Peck, Jay Lycurgo, and Barry Keoghan. A release date has yet to be announced.
