A chilling new chapter is unfolding in the Conjuring universe — The Revenge of La Llorona, a sequel to the 2019 horror hit The Curse of La Llorona, has officially entered production. The follow-up film promises a fresh creative direction, introducing new faces both in front of and behind the camera, while continuing the terrifying legacy of the weeping spirit.
The upcoming sequel features Jay Hernandez and Monica Raymund in leading roles, alongside returning star Raymond Cruz, who reprises his role as curandero Rafael Olvera. They are joined by Edy Ganem, Martín Fajardo, and real-life siblings Acston Luca Porto and Avie Porto.
Santiago Menghini steps into the director’s chair for the sequel, with a screenplay penned by Sean Tretta. Though the creative team has been refreshed, key producers from the first film — James Wan, Gary Dauberman, and Emile Gladstone — are returning to guide the production. Executive producers include Mia Maniscalco, Jamie Buckner, Michael Clear, and Judson Scott.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Revenge of La Llorona is currently filming in Buffalo, New York, following multiple false starts and production delays.
The sequel centers on a fractured family haunted by their past, who must reunite with their estranged curandero grandfather to confront the vengeful La Llorona before she claims their children. With new blood and a renewed creative vision, the next installment aims to bring fresh terror — and emotional depth — to one of folklore’s most haunting legends.
