The live-action adaptation of The Jetsons may have found its potential star.
Originally produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions, The Jetsons debuted on ABC in 1962. Created as a futuristic counterpart to The Flintstones, the animated series followed the adventures of the Jetson family—George (voiced by George O’Hanlon), Jane (Penny Singleton), Elroy (Daws Butler), Judy (Janet Waldo), and Astro the Space Mutt (Don Messick)—as they navigated various escapades involving aliens, robots, and space-age technology.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. Pictures is developing a live-action version of The Jetsons, with actor Jim Carrey being considered for the leading role. While it’s believed he may be eyed for the part of George Jetson, the project is still in its early stages, and no official agreements have been made.
Colin Trevorrow is also in discussions to direct the film and co-write the screenplay with Joe Epstein. Trevorrow is best known for directing the 2015 blockbuster Jurassic World and its 2022 sequel Jurassic World Dominion. He also contributed as a writer on Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and was initially attached to direct Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker before J.J. Abrams took over. His other works include the 2004 documentary Reality Show, 2012’s Safety Not Guaranteed, and the 2017 film The Book of Henry.
Jim Carrey, famed for his comedic roles in movies such as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Dumb and Dumber, as well as dramatic performances in The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, has continued to be active in film. Recently, he has portrayed Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, most recently appearing in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 set for release in 2024.
