Blumhouse has secured its next major horror franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio emerged victorious in a “multi-company bidding war” for the rights to adapt Boom! Studios’ comic series Something Is Killing the Children by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera. Blumhouse intends to develop the property into both a feature film and a television series. The live-action movie will be produced concurrently with an adult animated TV series, which will be overseen by Tynion himself.

Blumhouse will produce the live-action film alongside Stephen Christy and James Tynion IV, with Shaun Sutton, Ryan Turek, Adam Yoelin, and Mette Norkjaer serving as executive producers.

In a statement, Blumhouse expressed enthusiasm for the project: “It’s easy to see why audiences and critics alike have praised Something Is Killing the Children. James and Werther’s comic taps into our most primal fears, drawing us into a captivating world and introducing Erica Slaughter, the fierce hero we all wish we had to fight the monsters hiding in the dark.”

The comic’s storyline is described as follows: “In a quiet American town, children begin dying in horrific ways. Local police are baffled by the brutal murders and desperately try to catch the killer. However, they refuse to believe reports of impossible creatures lurking in the shadows, snatching children and tearing them apart—especially since only children claim to have seen these monsters. Enter Erica Slaughter, a mysterious outsider who arrives in town claiming she can solve the ‘monster’ problem. But can the townspeople trust this dangerous stranger with their children’s lives? And more importantly, can the children trust her with their secrets?”

No release dates have been announced for either the film or the TV series at this time.
