Quentin Tarantino is making a rare return to acting, taking on a role in a new film for the first time since From Dusk till Dawn. He is among the ensemble cast of the upcoming movie Only What We Carry, directed by Charlotte Gainsbourg. The film also stars Simon Pegg, Sofia Boutella, Liam Hellmann, and U.S. singer Lizzy McAlpine.
The production of the film has already concluded, and Deadline describes it as “a meditation on love, loss, and the quiet courage it takes to move forward.” Tarantino is expected to portray John Percy, a character who arrives unexpectedly and “stirs long-buried truths.”
This marks a rare acting appearance for the renowned director. Although Tarantino has occasionally cast himself in small roles within his own films, he hasn’t starred in a non-Tarantino film since 1996’s From Dusk till Dawn, directed by Robert Rodriguez. That film featured notable stars like Harvey Keitel, George Clooney, Juliette Lewis, Cheech Marin, Fred Williamson, and Salma Hayek. Aside from that, Tarantino has largely stayed away from acting, leaving fans curious about what motivated him to take on this new role.
Regarding his directing career, Tarantino is reportedly working on his tenth and final film, though progress has been slow. He was previously working on a project titled The Movie Critic, but he decided to step away from that film, leaving the future of his directing career uncertain.
