Sydney Sweeney, known for her roles in Euphoria and Anyone But You, has signed on as the lead in Apple Original Films’ upcoming remake of That Man From Rio. Justin Lin, renowned for his work on the Fast & Furious franchise, will direct the project. The remake is based on the classic 1964 French film of the same name. According to Deadline, the film is described as an adventure comedy and will be produced by Lin for Perfect Storm Entertainment and Kevin Walsh for The Walsh Company. While specific details about the plot and characters remain under wraps, it is expected to present a modernized version of the original story.
In addition to starring in the film, Sweeney will also serve as an executive producer. Justin Lin will helm the movie from a screenplay by Chase Palmer. This project marks Sweeney’s latest collaboration with Apple Original Films and Walsh, following their recent work together on the thriller Echo Valley.
The original 1964 film was directed by Philippe de Broca and starred French icons Jean-Paul Belmondo and Françoise Dorléac. It followed the adventure of military officer Adrien and his fiancée Agnes as they journey to Brazil to rescue museum curator Professor Catalan, who has been kidnapped by Amazon tribesmen. The film notably served as an inspiration for Steven Spielberg and George Lucas in developing the Indiana Jones series.
