Sometimes, people lose themselves a little in order to find their way back to who they truly are. On her latest EP, pop-country singer Ashley Kutcher explores this journey of self-discovery with her new five-song project, Back To My Roots. Both literally and figuratively, Kutcher returns to her origins—through her music, style, honesty, and soul. Known for her playful storytelling, like on her 2024 EP Play Responsibly, she strips away the façades of fame and the influences of others to reconnect with her authentic self. Despite a time marked by chaos, hardship, and heartbreak, Kutcher manages to find her way back to her roots, sharing more of her genuine self without the glitz and glamour.
The EP opens with the title track, “Back To My Roots,” a heartfelt country ballad that features only Kutcher’s guitar and raw emotion. In the song, she reflects on a chance encounter with someone named Georgia, who notices that Kutcher has changed. She describes returning to her natural hair, giving up the beach lifestyle, and cutting her bangs to resemble her mother’s style from 1993—all symbolic gestures of reinvention. Kutcher explains that she’s “going back to her roots” to evolve into a new version of herself, shedding old layers. That basically sums up this EP, if your a fan of country pop this album is for you.
