A beloved ABC sitcom is being reimagined for Fox, with plans to revive one of the most iconic TV shows in history. According to a recent report from Deadline, Fox is developing a new version of Bewitched, the classic fantasy sitcom that first aired in the 1960s. This new iteration will be an hourlong reimagining of the original series, developed by writer and executive producer Judalina Neira, known for her work on The Boys and Daisy Jones and the Six.

Deadline reports that this project marks the first major venture for Neira through her production company, Famous Last Words Production, following her overall deal with Sony TV set for 2024. The series will be produced collaboratively by both companies and is set to bring Bewitched back to screens.

The reboot is described as having a “heartfelt” tone. The logline outlines a story where, despite coming from vastly different worlds—he’s a human, she’s a witch—Samantha and Darrin fall in love at first sight. However, their love faces numerous obstacles, including disapproving families, cultural clashes, and bridging the divide between their worlds.

Originally premiering in 1964, Bewitched ran for eight seasons with over 250 episodes before concluding in 1972. The show starred Elizabeth Montgomery as Samantha, a witch married to mortal Darrin Stephens (initially played by Dick York and later by Dick Sargent), as they navigated the chaos of married life.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest TV series of all time, Bewitched has left a lasting legacy. It featured crossover episodes with cartoons like The Flintstones, spawned a spin-off called Tabitha in 1977, and inspired a 2005 feature film starring Nicole Kidman.
