Brendan Fraser’s The Mummy 4 Has Been Announced

After years of rumors and wishful thinking, The Mummy 4 is officially moving forward — and Brendan Fraser fans can finally rejoice.

Fraser, who became a global action star as Rick O’Connell in Universal Pictures’ 1999 blockbuster The Mummy, is reportedly in talks to return for the new installment. His original co-star Rachel Weisz, who played adventurous Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan, is also in discussions to reprise her role.

Directed by Stephen Sommers, the original Mummy film became a pop culture phenomenon, spawning two sequels — The Mummy Returns (2001) and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008). Fraser and John Hannah (Jonathan Carnahan) appeared in all three movies, while Arnold Vosloo (Imhotep) and Weisz appeared in the first two. In the third film, Maria Bello stepped in for Weisz as Evelyn.

According to Deadline, the fourth entry will be helmed by directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett — known collectively as Radio Silence. The pair have built a reputation for blending horror, comedy, and action through their films Ready or Not (2019), Scream (2022), Scream VI (2023), and Abigail (2024). They’re also currently developing Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, slated for release in April.

The script for The Mummy 4 is being penned by David Coggeshall (Orphan: First Kill), with producers Sean Daniel, William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein attached. Plot details remain tightly under wraps, and Universal has not yet set a release date.

Interestingly, The Mummy 4 isn’t the only mummy-themed adventure on the horizon. Director Lee Cronin (Evil Dead Rise) is working on a separate mummy project for Warner Bros. Pictures, produced by horror heavyweights Jason Blum and James Wan. That film — starring Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Verónica Falcón, and May Calamawy — is scheduled to arrive next spring.

For now, fans can only speculate on what fresh ancient horrors and high-octane escapades await Rick and Evelyn O’Connell in their long-awaited return to the tombs.
