Ella Purnell Starring Alongside Pete Davidson In New Rom-Com

Ella Purnell is set to share the screen with comedian Pete Davidson in the upcoming romantic comedy That Time We Met. The film follows two strangers whose disastrous first date takes a bizarre twist when they discover their future child is destined to save humanity.

Directed by Theater Camp filmmaker Nick Lieberman and written by Mitchell Winkie, the movie is described as a “cosmic love story” with an unexpected sci-fi edge. After their awkward date, the mismatched pair must come to terms with the revelation that their unborn child has an extraordinary fate—one that could change the course of the world (via Deadline).

The film is being produced by Matt Jackson and Joanne Lee of Jackson Pictures, alongside Marc Platt, Adam Siegel, and Katie McNicol of Marc Platt Productions, and Ford Corbett and Nathan Klingher for Gramercy Park Media. Gramercy’s Joshua Harris and Mark Fasano will serve as executive producers. WME Independent is managing global sales and will present the project at the upcoming American Film Market.

For Purnell, That Time We Met marks her first leading role in a romantic comedy. She has recently earned widespread praise for her performances in Showtime’s Yellowjackets and Prime Video’s hit series Fallout, which returns for its second season in December 2025.

Davidson, meanwhile, continues to balance comedy and film work following his time on Saturday Night Live. He will next appear in How to Rob a Bank, directed by David Leitch, slated for release in September 2026.

With its offbeat premise and unexpected pairing of stars, That Time We Met is already shaping up to be one of Hollywood’s most intriguing romantic comedies on the horizon.
