Superman Spin-Off Show Centered Around Jimmy Olsen Is Moving Forward

One of the upcoming Superman-related TV series has taken a significant step forward.

Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios released a Superman movie in July 2025, directed by James Gunn. The film, part of the DC Universe, stars David Corenswet as Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. A sequel, titled Man of Tomorrow, is currently in development.

Following the success of the Superman movie, reports surfaced that Gunn and DC were exploring the possibility of creating spin-off shows centered on some of Superman’s supporting characters, such as Mister Terrific or Jimmy Olsen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Jimmy Olsen spin-off is now officially moving forward. The project will be written and executive produced by Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda, a duo best known for creating Netflix’s American Vandal. Both will also serve as showrunners. Skyler Gisondo is expected to reprise his role as Jimmy Olsen. The show has been tentatively titled DC Crime, according to Variety.

The series’ premise focuses on Olsen and other Daily Planet reporters (excluding Lois Lane and Clark Kent) as they investigate cases involving super-powered villains. The first season will feature Gorilla Grodd, a super-intelligent evil ape who rules a hidden city called Gorilla City in Africa. Grodd has been a notable villain in the Flash comics since 1959, created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino. He is known for being a major adversary of the Flash.

James Gunn and Peter Safran will serve as executive producers alongside Perrault and Yacenda, with Gialyin Vaisman overseeing the project for DC. A premiere date for DC Crime has not yet been announced.
