Academy Award nominee Amanda Seyfried has signed on to star in the upcoming series adaptation of Skinny Dip, based on Carl Hiaasen’s 2004 caper novel. The project, which was initially developed at HBO Max earlier this year, has now been picked up by Amazon MGM Studios.
According to Deadline, Seyfried will portray Joey Perrone, a woman who is pushed off a cruise ship by her unfaithful husband. Miraculously surviving the fall, Joey seizes the opportunity to plot her revenge with the help of a former police officer. The series is written and executive-produced by Once Upon a Time creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis.
The show’s logline teases, “Perrone’s second anniversary didn’t go quite as planned. She expected earrings, but instead, her husband Chaz had other plans. After unexpectedly finding herself on the other side of those plans, she vows to get revenge. Teaming up with a disgraced ex-cop, Joey sets out to make Chaz pay.”
In addition to her role as star, Seyfried is also serving as an executive producer alongside Bill Lawrence. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television for Prime Video, with Hiaasen, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer also involved in the production.
Seyfried’s most recent TV project was the Peacock miniseries Long Bright River, which premiered last March. She will next appear in the psychological thriller The Housemaid, alongside Sydney Sweeney, and in the musical drama The Testament of Ann Lee with Lewis Pullman. The latter earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
