Paul Feig’s gripping adaptation of Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel The Housemaid has taken theaters by storm since its December 2025 release, dominating conversations among moviegoers and book lovers alike. Starring Sydney Sweeney as the troubled housemaid Millie and Amanda Seyfried as the enigmatic Nina Winchester, the psychological thriller has left audiences hooked—and eagerly anticipating what comes next.
Fans of McFadden’s original book series, which includes sequels The Housemaid’s Secret and The Housemaid Is Watching, are already clamoring for film follow-ups.
Before the movie hit screens, Entertainment Weekly spoke with Sweeney and Seyfried about the possibility of expanding the story. Sweeney remained coy, saying, “I think that we’ll just have to wait and see. I hope that the audience loves the movies just like we love the books, and we can continue to hopefully share that love within more of the films.”
Seyfried, however, has been more enthusiastic. In recent interviews, including with Entertainment Weekly, she’s expressed strong interest in returning, telling the outlet, “Oh yeah, absolutely,” when asked about sequels.
With the film’s strong box office performance and critical praise—particularly for Seyfried’s unhinged performance—hopes are almost now “guaranteed” according to the actress.
