Trailer: Gerard Butler Returns to a Shattered World in ‘GREENLAND 2: MIGRATION’

Survival isn’t the endgame anymore — finding a future is.

The final trailer for GREENLAND 2: MIGRATION has arrived, and it makes one thing clear: the apocalypse was only the beginning. Picking up after the devastating events of Greenland, the sequel shifts its focus from immediate survival to something far more uncertain — rebuilding life in a world that no longer resembles home.

Set in the aftermath of a catastrophic comet strike that wiped out much of Earth, GREENLAND 2: MIGRATION follows the Garrity family — John (Gerard Butler), Allison (Morena Baccarin), and their son Nathan (Roman Griffin Davis) — as they’re forced to abandon the relative safety of their bunker in Greenland. With resources dwindling and hope fragile, the family must traverse a fractured, hostile planet in search of a new place to settle and survive.

The trailer leans heavily into tension and atmosphere, showcasing vast, ruined landscapes and the constant threat posed not just by the environment, but by other survivors pushed to desperate extremes. Unlike many disaster sequels that escalate purely through spectacle, Migration appears deeply character-driven, grounding its chaos in emotional stakes. Butler once again anchors the film with a performance built on grit and moral urgency, while Baccarin brings quiet strength and humanity to a world stripped of comfort.

Director Ric Roman Waugh returns, reuniting with writer Chris Sparling alongside Mitchell LaFortune, maintaining the grounded realism that made the original film stand out in the disaster genre. The production pedigree is equally stacked, with Lionsgate and STXfilms presenting a Thunder Road Films / Anton / G-Base / CineMachine production — the same creative ecosystem behind the franchise’s intense, survival-focused tone.

The supporting cast expands the scope of the story, with Amber Rose Revah, Sophie Thompson, Trond Fausa Aurvåg, and William Abadie adding new layers to the fractured society the Garritys must navigate. The trailer hints at uneasy alliances, moral compromise, and the terrifying idea that humanity itself may be the most dangerous obstacle left.

With its blend of large-scale disaster filmmaking and intimate family drama, GREENLAND 2: MIGRATION looks poised to deliver a sequel that earns its existence — expanding the world while deepening its emotional impact.

GREENLAND 2: MIGRATION opens only in theaters January 9. The final trailer is available now.
