EXCLUSIVE interviews

Exclusive Interview with ‘The Wayfinders’ Star Evan Nikolas Fields

Evan Nikolas Fields stars as one of the leads in The Wayfinders, an original action series from Angel Studios. He portrays Flynn Griffin, one of three high school students who are mysteriously transported from their everyday lives into a fantastical new world. Flynn is adventurous and loyal but is also constantly torn between what’s right and following what feels right. Flynn becomes the emotional compass of the group, the one who grounds everyone when things start to fall apart. His character arc starts from the journey of someone uncertain of who they are trying to grow into someone who believes in themselves and the people around them.

The teaser and pilot have a very classic “kids transported to another world” vibe—think Chronicles of Narnia or Stranger Things. Were there specific movies or shows from your own childhood that you drew inspiration from while creating Flynn?

Definitely. I pulled a lot from movies like The Goonies and Treasure Planet. They capture that mix of fear, excitement, and unexpected bravery. Flynn lives in that same space, a kid thrown into something bigger than himself who learns to step up.

You started your career doing a lot of comedy—Henry Danger, Game Shakers, American Vandal—and now you’re anchoring a pretty emotional, dramatic role. Do you feel like your comedy background actually helps you in heavier dramatic moments?

Absolutely. Comedy teaches timing and how to stay present, skills that actually make the dramatic moments hit harder.

What’s been the most surprising or challenging part of filming an ongoing fantasy series versus the guest-star or movie roles you’ve done in the past?

The biggest surprise was how much world building you carry week to week. In fantasy, the stakes never let up: one day it’s stunts, the next it’s heavy emotion. It pushed me to stay locked in longer than a guest spot or film, but it was definitely rewarding.

The show has new episodes out now. If you could tease one thing—maybe a moment, a line, or a visual—that fans should be absolutely hyped for later in the season (no major spoilers!), what would it be?

Visually, fans should be hyped; the show looks incredible. Most of it was shot on location in Ireland, with stunning landscapes and real castles. There’s a moment later in the season where all of that comes together, and it’s honestly breathtaking.

Finally, you’ve gone from Nickelodeon shows to Netflix teen rom-coms to now leading a fantasy adventure series. Where do you see your career heading in the next few years more genre work, maybe producing, or something completely different?

In the next couple of years, I’d love to keep exploring different genres, drama, even more grounded character work. I’m drawn to interesting stories and adventure. As long as I’m working on things that excite me, that’s the direction I want to go.
