Following the massive success of the first film, Lionsgate has announced that The Housemaid 2 is officially happening, revealing the film’s title and more.
Lionsgate has officially confirmed that a sequel to The Housemaid is moving forward. Titled The Housemaid’s Secret, the follow-up is scheduled to begin production in 2026. While an official release date has not yet been announced, the timeline suggests the studio is likely aiming for a 2027 theatrical release.
Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel for the first film, is set to return as screenwriter. Director Paul Feig is also in talks to come back, alongside stars Sydney Sweeney and Michele Morrone. At this stage, it remains unclear whether Amanda Seyfried’s character will appear in the sequel.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Adam Fogelson highlighted the strong audience response to the original film as a key reason for moving ahead with another installment. “It’s clear from both the global box office and the outpouring on social media that audiences have responded strongly—and audibly—to the totally unique and truly theatrical experience of The Housemaid and want to know what happens next,” he said.
Fogelson added that the studio has believed in McFadden’s stories from the start and is eager to continue Millie’s journey on screen. He described The Housemaid’s Secret as another gripping entry in the author’s series, one that has already captivated readers worldwide, and expressed excitement about translating that energy into what he promises will be an equally thrilling and crowd-pleasing cinematic experience.
