Mia Goth and Andrew Scott Set To Star In Thriller Film ‘Fonda’

Mia Goth (known for her role in Frankenstein) and Andrew Scott (star of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery) have officially signed on to star in the highly anticipated upcoming psychological thriller film, “Fonda.” Directed by the celebrated French filmmaker Justine Triet, the project marks her debut in the English-language film industry.

Justine Triet gained widespread recognition for her 2023 legal drama Anatomy of a Fall, which earned her the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Fonda also features an impressive supporting cast, including acclaimed actors Frank Dillane (Urchin) and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Candyman). Additionally, Oscar-winning actress Allison Janney (The Diplomat) is currently in negotiations to join the cast in a key role. Production for the film is set to commence in spring.

Fonda is described as a gripping psychological thriller set within a seemingly idyllic house, exploring the fragile boundaries of the human mind as grief and obsession take hold. The film promises a “vertiginous dive into the shifting limits of a sound mind,” according to the initial synopsis.

The screenplay and direction are both by Justine Triet, marking her full debut in the English-language film scene. The project reunites her with Anatomy of a Fall producers Marie-Ange Luciani (Les Films de Pierre) and David Thion (Les Films Pelléas). Studiocanal and mk2 Films are co-producing the film.

Fionnuala Jamison, CEO of mk2 Films, expressed high confidence in the project, stating, “Fonda promises to deliver another major cinematic moment by exploring the depths of the human mind. This film is destined to be a top awards contender and a box office hit, with a rare combination of intelligence and emotional power.”

Anna Marsh, CEO of Studiocanal and CCO of Canal+, added, “Justine Triet’s cinematic work is unparalleled, and with such an exceptional cast, we are excited to bring this film to audiences worldwide. From the moment we read the script, we knew we had to be part of Justine Triet’s unforgettable return to cinema.”
