Ana de Armas has officially signed on to star in the upcoming psychological thriller Sweat. This film marks her latest project after her standout role in last year’s Ballerina, a John Wick spin-off.
According to Deadline, Sweat will be directed by J Blakeson (I Care A Lot), and is based on the 2020 Swedish-Polish film of the same name by Magnus von Horn. Blakeson will also serve as a producer alongside Crimple Beck, Guy Stodel for Rosto Inc., and Ford, the Chairman and CEO of AGC Studios. The project is set to be both financed and co-produced by AGC Studios, with filming scheduled to commence on March 30, 2026. Production will take place in Los Angeles and the UK.
The movie’s plot centers on Emma Kent (de Armas), a rising fitness influencer who aspires to emulate her idol, social media star Kat Highbrook. However, her carefully maintained world begins to unravel after a tense encounter with Kat goes awry, leading her into a perilous situation involving Trent, an obsessive fan whose unwavering devotion turns dangerous. Emma is forced to confront how far she’s willing to go to achieve fame.
In other recent news, last November it was reported that de Armas was in the final stages of negotiations to star alongside Cameron Diaz and Benicio del Toro in Reenactment. The film will be directed by Grant Singer, known for his debut feature Reptile (2023). Besides her role in Ballerina, de Armas also recently appeared in Ron Howard’s survival thriller Eden, alongside Vanessa Kirby and Sydney Sweeney.
