Dakota Johnson, Saoirse Ronan, and Jessie Buckley are confirmed to star as three incestuous sisters in an upcoming film adaptation of the novel Three Incestuous Sisters by Audrey Niffenegger.
The movie is directed by Alice Rohrwacher, who previously directed La Chimera (2023), starring Josh O’Connor, along with acclaimed films like Heavenly Body (2011), The Wonders (2014), and Happy as Lazzaro (2018). According to Deadline, in addition to Johnson, Ronan, and Buckley, the cast will also feature Josh O’Connor.
Details about the plot and characters are currently being kept under wraps. However, it is known that the screenplay, penned by Rohrwacher and Ottessa Moshfegh, is only “loosely” based on the 2005 novel. The novel’s synopsis describes a story of three sisters—each distinct: one beautiful, one intelligent, and one talented—whose lives are intertwined in a melodramatic tale of sibling rivalry. The story explores intense jealousy, passionate love affairs, and the destructive consequences that follow, culminating in sabotage, shame, and despair.
Rohrwacher is producing the film alongside Johnson and Ro Donnelly for TeaTime Pictures, with Steven Rales representing Indian Paintbrush. Production is scheduled to commence in April.
In terms of recent work, Johnson recently starred alongside Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans in the 2025 film Materialists. Jessie Buckley, who received an Academy Award nomination for her role in Hamnet last year, will soon appear in The Bride!, set to hit U.S. theaters next week. Saoirse Ronan recently starred in the British comedy Bad Apples and has been cast as Linda McCartney in Sam Mendes’ upcoming series of four Beatles movies.
A release date for Three Incestuous Sisters has not yet been announced.
