Netflix has secured the rights to an upcoming highly anticipated drama featuring an impressive lineup of stars. The film, titled In the Hand of Dante, is directed by Julian Schnabel, who co-wrote the screenplay with Louise Kugelberg. While no official release date has been announced, the film is already generating buzz due to its notable cast and artistic pedigree.
The ensemble cast is truly exceptional, including Oscar Isaac, Gal Gadot, Gerard Butler, John Malkovich, Louis Cancelmi, Sabrina Impacciatore, Franco Nero, Benjamin Clementine, Paolo Bonacelli, Martin Scorsese, Al Pacino, and Jason Momoa. The movie had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival last year, where Schnabel received the Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker Award in recognition of his contributions to cinema.
In the Hand of Dante is an adaptation of Nick Tosches’ 2002 novel. The story features Oscar Isaac in a dual role—portraying both the 21st-century author Nick Tosches and Dante Alighieri of the 14th century. According to Netflix’s logline, the film explores the mysterious connection between the two through their shared obsession with love, beauty, and the divine, spanning across time: “A New York author in the 21st century and Dante Alighieri himself in the 14th century are unknowingly connected both through time and their obsessive quest for love, beauty, and the divine.”
Julian Schnabel is renowned for his acclaimed films The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and Before Night Falls, the latter of which was a breakout role for Javier Bardem. With such a compelling director and an extraordinary cast, In the Hand of Dante is poised to be a major cinematic event.
