Searchlight Pictures has unveiled the official trailer for Wild Horse Nine, the upcoming black comedy thriller from acclaimed Oscar-winning filmmaker Martin McDonagh, starring John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell.
Set shortly before the 1973 Chilean coup, the story follows veteran CIA agent Chris (Malkovich) and his longtime partner Lee (Rockwell), who are sent from Santiago to the remote Easter Island by their bureau chief, MJ (Steve Buscemi). Amid the island’s famous moai statues, the duo grapples with their troubled histories and ongoing conspiracies. Things take a complicated turn when Chris forms an unexpected connection with two rebellious local students, putting the entire mission—and their fragile partnership—at risk.
McDonagh wrote, directed, and produced the film, reuniting with frequent collaborators Graham Broadbent and Pete Czernin, alongside Anita Overland. The impressive ensemble cast also features Mariana di Girolamo, Ailín Salas, Tom Waits, and Parker Posey.
Wild Horse Nine is McDonagh’s first feature since the critically acclaimed The Banshees of Inisherin (2022), which earned nine Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director for McDonagh, Best Original Screenplay, and acting nods for Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan, and Kerry Condon.
The film is scheduled to hit theaters on November 6, 2026.
