Mubi has unveiled the official trailer for Rosebush Pruning, an upcoming satirical comedy thriller featuring Callum Turner (known for Eternity) and Academy Award nominee Elle Fanning (Sentimental Value). After making its world debut at the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival, the film is set to hit U.S. theaters later this year.
The official synopsis describes the story: “Underneath the Catalonian sun, a wealthy white American family lives in hedonistic isolation, seeking love and validation through each other, their designer wardrobes, and pop music. When an outsider infiltrates the family, buried tensions surface, and blood ties are severed.” The trailer introduces five American siblings—Edward, Jack, Anna, and Robert—who inherit a fortune following their mother’s death. It showcases their peculiar and twisted bond, which becomes increasingly strained with the arrival of Jack’s girlfriend, Martha.
Rosebush Pruning is being hailed as a sharp, provocative satire that critiques the absurdities of traditional patriarchal family structures. The film is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Karim Aïnouz (Firebrand, Invisible Life), with a screenplay by Oscar-nominated writer Efthimis Filippou. Loosely inspired by Marco Bellocchio’s 1965 Italian dark comedy Fists in the Pocket, the movie features an ensemble cast including Riley Keough (Daisy Jones & The Six), Jamie Bell (All of Us Strangers), Lukas Gage (The White Lotus), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), Tracy Letts (Lady Bird), and Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl).
Produced by Viola Fügen, Michael Weber, Simone Gattoni, Annamaria Morelli, Andreas Wentz, Juan Cano, and Rachel Dargavel, Rosebush Pruning promises to be a bold and biting exploration of family, power, and societal norms.
