Tyler Perry’s Psychological Thriller “Strung” Set to Debut at Black Film Festival and Stream on Peacock

A new psychological thriller backed by Tyler Perry and Blumhouse Productions is gearing up for its highly anticipated release. Featuring a talented cast and premiering at a major film festival, the movie is scheduled to premiere on streaming platforms this summer.

Directed by Malcolm D. Lee, Strung will first make its debut at the 30th American Black Film Festival in Miami Beach, running from May 27 to May 31, an event that celebrates three decades of showcasing Black talent in cinema. Following this debut, the film will be available for streaming on Peacock starting June 26, according to Variety.

The story centers around Chloe Bailey, who stars as a gifted violinist. Her character lands a prestigious tutoring gig with a wealthy and enigmatic family. What initially appears to be a promising career opportunity quickly spirals into a tense psychological battle for control and survival. The supporting cast includes Anna Diop, Lynn Whitfield, Lucien Laviscount, and Coco Jones, suggesting the film will blend strong character dynamics with its suspenseful thriller elements.

While Tyler Perry is not directing, he is one of the producers, alongside Jason Blum and others. The screenplay is written by Alan McElroy, known for his intense, character-driven stories, including work on Spawn, Halloween 4, and Wrong Turn. The production is managed by Peachtree & Vine in partnership with Blumhouse, with additional support from Blackmaled Productions.

Festival organizers emphasized the significance of Strung in this year’s lineup. Nicole Friday, president of Nice Crowd, remarked that Malcolm D. Lee’s return to the festival “feels especially right for this moment,” aligning with the event’s “Homecoming” theme. She added, “It’s a special way to open the festival in Miami Beach as we celebrate this milestone.”

With a high-profile premiere and a swift move to streaming, Strung is poised to reach a broad audience soon after its debut, promising an intense and engaging cinematic experience.
