A new Supergirl trailer has been released, showcasing Milly Alcock’s “rock and roll” attitude and her unique take on the character, setting her apart from her Kryptonian cousin, Superman. This latest video offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the upcoming movie, featuring interviews with both James Gunn and Alcock. They discuss how this film and Alcock’s portrayal of Kara Zor-El differ significantly from Superman.
Both Gunn and Alcock emphasize that the movie will have a distinct vibe from the traditional Superman story. While many might see Kara as a sidekick or secondary figure to the iconic hero, Alcock assures fans that this film will show a different side of her, highlighting her in a new light. The movie is inspired by Tom King’s 2021-2022 comic book series, illustrated by Bilquis Evely. Alcock stars as Kara Zor-El, with the screenplay written by Ana Nogueira and production overseen by DC Studios co-CEOs Gunn and Peter Safran.
Gunn explained in 2023 that the film will contrast Superman’s upbringing—being sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from infancy—with Kara’s background. She was raised on a fragment of Krypton, witnessing the deaths of those around her in a brutal environment for the first 14 years of her life before arriving on Earth as a young girl. Gunn described her as much more “hardcore” and different from the traditional Supergirl image many are familiar with.
Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film is currently scheduled for release on June 26, 2026.
