A24 has released the official trailer for The Invite, the highly anticipated comedy directed and starring Olivia Wilde. After its world premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, the film is set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
The film’s synopsis teases: “Joe and Angela’s marriage is on thin ice. When they invite their mysterious upstairs neighbors for a dinner party, the night takes unexpected turns. Have they reignited the spark or ignited a fire that will destroy everything?”
The Invite marks Wilde’s return to directing feature films since her 2022 psychological thriller Don’t Worry Darling. The screenplay, written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, is inspired by the 2020 Spanish film The People Upstairs by Cesc Gay. Wilde also stars in the film alongside notable cast members including Seth Rogen (Neighbors, Pam & Tommy), Edward Norton (A Complete Unknown), and Penélope Cruz (Vicky Cristina Barcelona).
The project is executive-produced by Patrick Chu for Annapurna Pictures, with production credits shared by FilmNation Entertainment’s Ben Browning, Annapurna Pictures’ Megan Ellison, and David Permut. Both Annapurna Pictures and FilmNation Entertainment are financing the movie. Since premiering, the film has received a strong positive response, boasting a 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 33 reviews.
This film represents another collaboration between Wilde and Rogen.
