Trailer: HBO and BBC Unveil New Series “Half Man” from Richard Gadd

HBO and the BBC have released the official trailer for Half Man, a compelling new limited series created by Richard Gadd, known for his hit show Baby Reindeer.
The series is described as a six-part exploration of brotherhood, violence, and the delicate nature of male relationships. The official logline states, “Half Man is a six-part limited series exploring brotherhood, violence, and the intense fragility of male relationships. After all, when things fall apart… it is sometimes the closest relationships which break the hardest.”

In Half Man, Gadd stars as Ruben, with Jamie Bell playing Niall. Although Ruben and Niall are brothers, they are not related by blood. They possess vastly different personalities but are inseparably linked. The story spans over 30 years, depicting their intertwined lives. The official synopsis explains, “Brought into each other’s lives through death and circumstance, all they have is each other. But when Ruben turns up at Niall’s wedding three decades later, everything seems different. He is on edge. Shifty. Not acting like himself. And soon, an explosion of violence takes place, which catapults us back through their lives, from the eighties to the present day.”

The ensemble cast also features Stuart Campbell, Mitchell Robertson, Neve McIntosh, Marianne McIvor, Charlie De Melo, Bilal Hasna, Julie Cullen, Amy Manson, Anjli Mohindra, Tim Downie, Tom Andrews, Philippine Velge, Stuart McQuarrie, Sandy Batchelor, Piers Ewart, and Scot Greenan. Newcomers Charlotte Blackwood, Calum Manchip, and Kate Robson-Stuart also star.

A joint production by HBO and the BBC, Half Man is created, written, and executive produced by Richard Gadd. Additional executive producers include Sophie Gardiner, Anna O’Malley, Gaynor Holmes, Gavin Smith, Tally Garner, and Morven Reid. Directors on the series are Alexandra Brodski and Eshref Reybrouck.

This series marks Gadd’s first project since Baby Reindeer, which debuted on Netflix in April 2024. The acclaimed show received widespread praise and won six Emmys, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, with Gadd earning awards for both writing and acting.
