A beloved comedy series starring Ice Cube is officially heading for another installment, with plans for a third film in the works. According to a report from Deadline, the “Ride Along” franchise is gearing up for its next chapter, tentatively titled Ride Along 3. The report indicates that key players, including Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, and director Tim Story, are in discussions to reprise their roles. Additionally, Will Packer is also in talks to return as a producer.
The original Ride Along film debuted in 2014, introducing audiences to Ben Barber (Kevin Hart), a security guard eager to prove himself to his girlfriend’s brother, Detective James Payton (Ice Cube). The story follows their chaotic ride-along as they stumble into a dangerous situation involving an arms dealer.
The sequel, Ride Along 2, was released in 2016 and took the duo to Miami, where they investigate a drug smuggling operation and team up with local detectives. Both films were directed by Tim Story. The first film was written by Greg Coolidge, Jason Mantzoukas, Phil Hay, and Matt Manfredi, while the second was penned by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi.
It remains uncertain whether cast members from the previous films, such as John Leguizamo, Bruce McGill, Tika Sumpter, Laurence Fishburne, Ken Jeong, Benjamin Bratt, or Olivia Munn, will return for the upcoming installment. Fans are eagerly awaiting further updates on the development of Ride Along 3.
