Exciting news: Spaceballs 2 is officially headed to theaters in 2027! In a new teaser video, Mel Brooks revealed the film’s official title: Spaceballs: The New One. This highly anticipated sequel to Brooks’ 1987 parody of the Star Wars saga brings back the original cast, including Brooks himself, Bill Pullman, George Wyner, Rick Moranis, and Daphne Zuniga. New additions to the cast include Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, and Anthony Carrigan.
Josh Greenbaum, known for Strays and Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, is directing the film, taking over from Brooks, who will turn 100 years old this June. Rumors about a Spaceballs sequel have been circulating since 2015—around the same time another space-themed franchise was returning to theaters—but it took decades for a sequel to History of the World, Part I to materialize. Fans are especially excited about Moranis’s return, as he has been largely absent from screen roles recently, apart from occasional reprising of his classic characters. Notably, he returned as Dark Helmet for a guest appearance on The Goldbergs in 2018. Additionally, Lewis Pullman has been cast as the son of Queen Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) and Lone Star (Bill Pullman, Lewis’s real-life father).
Spaceballs 2 is set to arrive in theaters on April 23rd, 2027. Check out Mel Brooks’ announcement of the title below, and for more on how comedians like Nick Kroll and Ike Barinholtz are carrying forward Brooks’ legacy, stay tuned.
