Tom Cruise is set to take to the skies once more with the official confirmation of Top Gun 3.
Although rumors of a sequel have circulated since 2024, this week brought an official announcement from Paramount during their annual CinemaCon presentation. The 63-year-old actor will star in the third installment of the action drama series, though no other cast members have been confirmed at this time.
Jerry Bruckheimer will return as producer, but director Joseph Kosinski has not yet signed on. Bruckheimer commented in 2024, “We pitched Tom a story he liked. But he’s a very in-demand actor with many projects lined up, so we’ll have to wait and see.” Last year, Cruise discussed the project, stating, “We’re exploring different stories and possibilities. It took me 35 years to figure out Top Gun: Maverick. We’re also discussing ideas related to Days of Thunder and the original Top Gun.”
The upcoming film follows the enormous success of 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick, which grossed $1.5 billion worldwide and received six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. The sequel built on the legacy of the 1986 original directed by Tony Scott.
