Vertical has unveiled the official trailer for Driver’s Ed, its latest coming-of-age comedy feature starring Academy Award nominee Kumail Nanjiani. The film is set to premiere on May 15, 2026, in select theaters and digital platforms.
According to the official synopsis, the movie centers on a group of teenagers who take off on a wild adventure in a stolen driver’s education car. Their mission? To help a lovesick high school senior find his college freshman girlfriend and win her back. The story unfolds over a chaotic 24-hour period as the teens are pursued by school security and police, targeted by small-time criminals, and unexpectedly end up adopting a three-legged cat.
The trailer introduces four high school friends who unexpectedly embark on this crazy road trip after one of them steals a car to try to rekindle his romance. It showcases the obstacles they face—like being chased by law enforcement—and hints at the comedic chaos ahead. The teen comedy also features performances by Sam Nivola (The White Lotus), Sophie Telegadis (One Stupid Thing), Mohana Krishnan (It Lives Inside), Aidan Laprete (The Pitt), and Lilah Pate (The Runarounds), alongside Emmy nominee Molly Shannon (People We Meet on Vacation).
Directed by Bobby Farrelly, known for Dumb and Dumber, Driver’s Ed is scripted by Thomas Moffett. The film is produced by Jonas and Jennifer Pate of Shandy Oaks, as well as David Stone of TFC Productions. Executive producers include Farrelly, Stuart Ford of AGC Studios, Miguel A. Palos Jr., Aghi Koh, Matthew Helderman and Luke Taylor of BondIt Media Capital, Scott Lambert, and Carole Peterman.
Reflecting on the project, Farrelly shared, “I’ve been a big fan of road trip comedies ever since we kicked off our career with Dumb & Dumber. What I particularly loved about making Driver’s Ed is that I worked with a really clever script and a talented, fun cast. Win-win!”
