In a surprising announcement, a new film adaptation of the popular Battlefield video game franchise is currently in the works, with Oscar-winning actor Michael B. Jordan attached to the project. According to a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Jordan is involved as a producer in the development of the movie. However, it remains unclear whether he will also take on a starring role.
THR also reveals that Christopher McQuarrie, known for directing several installments of the Mission: Impossible series, is set to write, direct, and produce the film. As of now, Jordan’s potential involvement as the lead actor is still under consideration, dependent on various factors.
Electronic Arts, the publisher behind Battlefield, is also attached to the project as a producer. The film is currently being shopped around to studios, with THR noting that the production will likely have a substantial budget, potentially sparking a bidding war among studios eager to secure the rights.
McQuarrie’s most recent work was the 2025 release Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning. Meanwhile, Michael B. Jordan’s upcoming project is a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, which he is set to both direct and star in alongside Adria Arjona. That film is scheduled for release on March 5, 2027.
