We’re rapidly approaching the premiere of the Big Bang Theory spinoff, Stuart Fails To Save the Universe. The comedy is set to debut this July on HBO Max, as announced during the show’s panel at CCXP Mexico City on Sunday. Fans also learned that the series’ original theme music will be composed by Emmy, Grammy, and Oscar-nominated artist Danny Elfman. The spinoff centers on Stuart Bloom, the comic book store owner played by Kevin Sussman. The story follows him as he attempts to restore reality after accidentally breaking a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, which triggers a multiverse Armageddon. Stuart is assisted in his mission by his girlfriend Denise, played by Lauren Lapkus; his friend Bert, a geologist, portrayed by Brian Posehn; and Barry Kripke, a quantum physicist and sometimes frustrating character, played by John Ross Bowie. Throughout their journey, they encounter alternate versions of familiar characters from The Big Bang Theory. As the title suggests, things don’t go smoothly.

The cast also features Lauren Lapkus as Denise, Brian Posehn as Bert, and John Ross Bowie as Barry. The series is written and executive-produced by Chuck Lorre—co-creator and executive producer of The Big Bang Theory and its previous spinoffs—alongside Zak Penn and Bill Prady, another Big Bang co-creator. It is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions in partnership with Warner Bros. Television.

Danny Elfman, known for over 100 film scores and a 40-year collaboration with Tim Burton—including films like Batman, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Alice in Wonderland—will compose the series’ theme music. His work also includes scores for Spider-Man, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Good Will Hunting, Milk, and the Men in Black series, as well as iconic TV themes for The Simpsons, Desperate Housewives, and Wednesday.
