Neon has officially announced the release date for the highly anticipated thriller film “Her Private Hell,” starring Golden Globe nominee Charles Melton and “Yellowjackets” star Sophie Thatcher. This film marks the return of director Nicolas Winding Refn to feature-length filmmaking after his 2016 hit “The Neon Demon.” According to Deadline, “Her Private Hell” is set to hit theaters on July 24, 2026. Prior to its theatrical debut, the movie will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival later this month.
The ensemble cast also includes Havana Rose Liu, Kristine Froseth, Dougray Scott, Diego Calva, Shioli Kutsuna, Aoi Yamada, and Hidetoshi Nishijima.
The film’s plot centers around a futuristic metropolis where multiple storylines intertwine. The story kicks off in a luxurious hotel where actresses gather to work on a Barbarella-like film. Meanwhile, a sinister killer known as Leather Man is terrorizing the city, targeting women.
Directed and produced by Refn, “Her Private Hell” features a screenplay co-written by Refn and Esti Giordani. The film’s production team includes executive producers Lene Børglum, Christina Erritzøe, Takuma Takasaki, and Kimberly Willming. The creative team also features composer Pino Donaggio, production designer Gitte Malling, and art director Thomas Karlsen.
During his decade-long hiatus from directing feature films, Refn shifted his focus to television projects. He directed two limited series, including the 2019 Prime Video crime drama “Too Old to Die Young,” starring Miles Teller, and the 2023 Danish noir thriller “Copenhagen Cowboy,” starring Angela Bundalovic. Additionally, Refn created and executive-produced the 2023 BBC series “The Famous Five,” based on Enid Blyton’s beloved adventure novels.
