Jonathan Bailey has landed a role in an upcoming film, adding to his impressive lineup following his recent box office successes with “Jurassic World Rebirth” and “Wicked: For Good.” Bailey will star alongside Oscar winner Natalie Portman in the intense psychological thriller “Pumping Black,” set against the high-stakes world of professional cycling.

The film will be launched at Cannes with international sales led by Anton, with CAA co-representing the U.S. rights. Directed by Mimi Cave, known for her 2022 horror hit “Fresh” starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan, as well as the upcoming 2025 comedy-mystery “Holland” featuring Nicole Kidman, “Pumping Black” promises a gripping narrative. The screenplay is written by Haley Hope Bartels.

Set in the competitive realm of professional cycling, “Pumping Black” centers on Taylor Mace, a 35-year-old cyclist nearing the end of his career. His journey takes a dark turn when he becomes mentored by Andrea Lathe, a driven doctor with a relentless desire for victory and influence. As the Tour de France heats up, Taylor is forced to take increasingly extreme measures to conceal his secrets. The film is described as an “adrenaline-fueled, dangerous thriller,” drawing comparisons to “Whiplash” and “Black Swan.”
Produced by Stacey Sher through Shiny Penny (“The Hateful Eight,” “Heretic”), alongside Cave, Sébastien Raybaud (“Victorian Psycho”), and Natalie Portman and Sophie Mas from MountainA (“May December,” “Arco”), “Pumping Black” is fully financed by Anton. Filming is scheduled to commence this fall.

Stacey Sher expressed her excitement about the project, saying, “Haley’s script immediately pulled us into a visceral, psychological world that feels both thrilling and completely original. I’m excited to partner with Natalie and MountainA on this bold project, and to work with Jonathan, whose talent makes him a perfect fit for the role. I can’t wait to collaborate with Anton and bring Mimi Cave’s incredible vision to life.”
