Pamela Anderson is collaborating with rock icon Debbie Harry on the upcoming comedy film Maitreya, which is set to premiere at the Cannes market.
The project is produced by Caviar, known for Sound of Metal. The film follows Maitreya (played by Anderson), a rising star in the New Age Healing community. She is preparing to attend a conference in India when she receives a call from her estranged sister, Monica: their father is dying. Instead of staying with her father, Maitreya decides to bring her entire family— including her mother, Barbara (Harry)—to the conference. There, she plans to test her New Age healing theories while secretly gathering material for her next book.
The film will be directed by Emmy-nominee Jonathan Krisel (Portlandia), from a screenplay by BAFTA-nominee Samuel D. Hunter (The Whale). Producers include Bert Hamelinck, Michael Sagol, Allison Hironaka, and Danica Radovanov. International sales will be handled by Nadine de Barros’ Fortitude International at Cannes, with CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group managing North American distribution. Filming is scheduled to begin at the end of 2026.
This project marks Anderson’s continued career resurgence following her nominations for SAG and Golden Globe awards for her role in Gia Coppola’s Cannes film The Last Showgirl. Her upcoming projects are diverse, including Karim Aïnouz’s Rosebush Pruning alongside Riley Keough, Callum Turner, Elle Fanning, and Jamie Bell; Somedays with Billy Bob Thornton; Kornel Mondruczo’s Place To Be with Taika Waititi; and Michael Cera’s directorial debut featuring Steeve Coogan and Jamie Dornan.
Debbie Harry, frontwoman of Blondie and Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Famer, is known for her acting roles in films such as David Cronenberg’s Videodrome and John Waters’ Hairspray.
Michael Sagol, producer and Managing Director at Caviar, expressed enthusiasm about the project, saying, “Being a part of bringing Maitreya to life with Jon and Sam has been so much fun already. After working together in branded content for the past decade, having the chance to produce Jon’s first feature—a soulful exploration of a dysfunctional family, perfectly suited to his unique comedic voice—makes us giddy with excitement!”
