The chart-topping duo, The Chainsmokers, have unveiled their latest project, Love Is Kind, a collaborative EP with Swedish singer-songwriter Oaks. The idea for this collection originated from their recent single, Echo. What started as a single song quickly evolved into a full-bodied body of work, as the duo found themselves inspired to create more.
The Chainsmokers openly discussed what inspired this creative journey. They noted a resurgence of 2016 nostalgia, fueled by renewed interest in hits like Roses, Closer, and Paris. This wave of nostalgia motivated them to reconnect with the magic of that era. Their collaboration with Oaks on Echo marked their first since Hope in 2018, and it rekindled their creative energy. This led to the formation of five new tracks centered around Oaks’ real-life love story.
“A few months ago, we made Echo, then we made another song, then another, and another,” the duo shared. “I can’t remember the last time we had such a smooth creative flow. Honestly, we had been feeling pretty stuck in the studio — maybe overwhelmed by ideas of what 2026 could sound like. The year started with the 2016 trend blowing up, and it’s amazing to see those songs connect with a new generation — even more than when they first came out. That’s been really meaningful for us. But it also made us reflect on what made that era special and why people still connect with that music. We’re still searching for the answer, but making this EP brought us closer.”
